...that's in new South Wales, Australia.

I haven't joined as a member of the local lodge yet (No 22). My home lodge is Lodge Army and Navy No 517, based in Sydney.

My name is Michael Ayling. I am an anaesthesiologist in public and private practice in a rural town of about 60 000 people.

I found this site as part of a google search for masonic fora.

I am relatively new to freemasonry. I decided to join after my grandfather died in February of last year, as ALL the males on both sides of my family (and my wife's) have been freemasons as far back as we can trace (at least 4 generations). So, having been raised last month at the age of 35, I wish I had got involved as a lewis. Even still, at 35 I would have skewed the average age of masons in NSW in country areas already!

Hello to everyone. I look forward to some interesting discussions.

Welcome to the forum Michael, Really glad you are enjoying your freemasonry. Your family are to be commended in letting you join when you are ready and not when they were ready, far to many people join to young and don't come back(entirely too many distractions for a young guy or girl out there at 18).  Maybe if you had joined as a lewis you wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as you seem to be doing now. Congratulations on your raising.

I am indeed. I got out of the regular Army in 2005 and I'm now a reservist. I have deployed twice overseas since leaving the regs... Docs get deployed quite a bit.

No backyard jobs! I mostly work in the public scene as the work is clinically more challenging there.

Having gone through life putting people to sleep, it was only natural that I'd end up doing it for a living.

Ah, memories of the late, great Bill Kerr.  Hope you will be here for more than four minutes (his catch phrase).

Edit:  Aha! Just looked Bill Kerr up, and I'm pleased to see he is 86 and speaking in Oz about his portrayal of Mick Martin in The Dam Busters.  (Now there's a familiar name!)
