It came up on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testament_of_Solomon Is there any mention of this within "masonic " texts and how does it fit with the previously ascribed benign nature of Solomon and his endeavors? Anyone else have any ideas? Strength of manhood and beauty of spirit need combination. Masonry thus needs strength with gracefulness, stability with courtesy, and firmness with gentleness. Post #11959 Russell HollandRussell Holland Posted 16/09/2009 06:35 Fellow Group: Forum Members Last Login: Today @ 01:20 Posts: 253, Visits: 1,581 It seems that various characters in the early history of the human race were later depicted as demons to fit with the politics or religion of the time. For example the goddess Lilith was supposedly the first wife of Adam and was later depicted as a demon - perhaps because of competition from the Shekinah (she who lives in a tent) - the consort of Jehovah. The account of Solomon and Ashmodai is interesting for its account of Eldad. "El" indicates a god and "dad" tells us which one. Eldad appears to be immortal - being 119 years old with no wrinkles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadad According to that account "ha" is the definite article thus: "the Dad" So here is Solomon being instructed by a Sumerian god. I wonder whether Ashmodai who needed sleep and had his camp at the top of a mountain was actually another god in competition with Eldad. I suspect such stories get rewritten to fit current belief systems Post #11961 bodbod Posted 16/09/2009 06:39 Fellow Group: Forum Members Last Login: Yesterday @ 15:48 Posts: 321, Visits: 597 Russell Holland (16/09/2009) It seems that various characters in the early history of the human race were later depicted as demons to fit with the politics or religion of the time./snip/ I suspect such stories get rewritten to fit current belief systems As then, so now, and throughout history, after all it's written by the victors, not the vanquished Post #11962 M PerrottM Perrott Posted 16/09/2009 23:13 Fellow Group: Forum Members Last Login: 17/08/2010 23:54 Posts: 292, Visits: 2,187 Nosameerf (16/09/2009)This may be of interest Freemasonry: Rituals, Symbols & History of the Secret SocietyBy Mark Stavish:This book might be the most useful or perhaps not! I thought they were Baal and Marduk? Baal who later became the cow effigy that was worshipped in the Kingdom of Judah, and Marduk from the time of Moses, the "god" that descended and enlightented the people but was later rejected by his "priests" for his wickedness. I beleive they trapped his spirit in a human form with secret rituals and then dismembered him rendering him a snake like form and then buried him alive. Or were those the gods of the Hittites from Ur, the land that Abraham originated from?I was also under the impression that Shekinah was another form of the "holy spirit", which was sent to earth and stored in the Ark of the Covenant.
