What a top evening that was, my lodge members were fantastic, lodge 1954 in Cornwall Uk. Always nice to see them and always welcoming ,if this what to expect ,I can wait for more .

Had a rough few years people you think are friends turning out not to be such good people ,plus had cancer and chemo in 2008 (testicular cancer then lung) so all my plans for a new eco home gone on hold ,but i think 2010 is going to be a top year .

Good Evening!

After having lurked and read and learned and sought more knowledge and information, I thought it time to register and say hello.

In December, at the age of 40, I thought it high time to ask. I contacted the UGL of NSW and ACT who replied in a day or two and put me in touch with a gentleman to talk about the possibilities.

We met in January for a chat about things. I found him amiable and perhaps he found me a touch annoying because of too many questions and perhaps has reserved me as a special pain for someone to lead and mentor. We seemed to share a similar approach to theology, deism and related matters. Sitting in the Temple, talking about much and many, unfettered by the Craft's convention of what should not be spoken of was a very special hour or two for me with that gent.

Forms were filled, the due process was advised and shortly I am to be Interviewed (March) with a view to Initiation rather soon after (April).

By his words, this is quick by Masonic standards and I'm ever so appreciative that things are taking this course for me.

Fingers crossed that I am deemed worthy. :)

My late Father was installed as a Grand Master not long before he was killed.

I've always held freemasonary high in my esteem and done my best to extoil it's virtues when those have tried to shoot it down through the information they've been fed by the media.

I done a bit of research of late and I've now made enquiries about joining the Order of Women Freemasons.

I opted for this over the Order of the Eastern Star due to what I've read it appears that the OoWF is more aligned to the male version.

Jusging by how long I've spent on here already I think i could quite easily get immersed in here for days. ;)

Yes, its another new person just about to get the EA welcome on 11th December 2009,

Me and a friend have both decided to join at the same time, The Lodge have decided to join us 1 month apart, That is fair enough to me, My friend goes 1st! :D Iv instructed my friend not to tell me what goes on, I want it all to be magic and special,

Don't get me wrong, Iv been down the rabbit hole of it all via the internet, iv seen what folk claim the event to be, but i don't always trust what I see on line, So I will take it as it is when it comes, that has got to be fair don't you think?

Iv been a looking at becoming a Freemason for many years now, one of my departed family memebers uncle John was a high ranking Freemason in London when i was 5 years old, that is when he died, But the strange thing is, He left me his masonic ring to me when I was just 5 years old with my Nan who is now in her late 70's, How the hell did he know I would follow in his footsteps? why leave me the ring? I was only 5years old, for all he knew I could have taken it and flogged it on ebay for a few £'s and gone down the pub and had a good time,

My new spark of wanting to find out more about Freemasons was from a film, National Treasure, yes that may be a bit of sad spark in the brain but it hit me sit there watching the film and i got all goose bumps and the memory's all came flooding back about uncle John,

The Seed was then set in my mind to find out more about uncle John from my nan as it was her brother,

Upon my unexpected visit to her some 60+miles away she was kinda shocked to see me alone at the doorway, But was welcomed all the same with the cup of Tea treatment and a place on the sofa, She did look puzzled until i said "uncle John" then I got the "Ah" sounds from her lips, she then left the room and came back with a rather dusty box with my name on it written in rather fancy fountain pen graphics, "this is for you Paul" it was left with me from "uncle John" She was instructed to give it to me when the time was right, I was puzzled, When was the time ever going to be right, she could have given it to me years ago, I mean come on I'm 34 now,

I opened the box, Inside was a rather old book called, Freemasons guide and compendium, 2 fantastic 10k gold rings with square and compass and G Logo on there blue stone sets, I knew that Logo instantly, 2 aprons, Master Mason with balls on chains hanging on them and Marks Master Mason,

My nan has a fuzzy memory nowadays and cant really tell me much about why he had them or why he had left them with her, or is that just an act? i don't know,

But more to the point now folks,

I opened communication with my local Freemason hall in Northampton where i now live about what Freemasons are all about and the prospect of joining,

I was invited to go for a meet at my home or the public house of my choice, I chose the pub as it was neutral ground,

Had a 3 hour chat about me , him, the club events and good times, I liked the guy, he was white haired and in his 60's, we parted and he left me with a booklet to read,

2 weeks later he called me and said had i read it and what did i think, in which i said yes i liked it and was more interested in joining,

2 weeks after that i got a letter from another Freemason offering me the opportunity to pop along to a bowls match, not really my thing but i wanted to keep face so i went, to my surprise i rather enjoyed the game and meet with members from the lodge and from another lodge, all men was rather nice and i felt rather at home with them all, after the game we went back to the lodge where we had beer is food, then given the grand tour of the lodge, it was all exciting as i started to see things that i had read up on,

a month went by and i got another letter inviting me in for an interview, I was rather nervous as It was an interview, I got there in good time and meet my friend who is also joining in the bar with the other Freemasons, we all had a few drinks together and we all relaxed and chatted, My friend went in 1st for his interview, he was done in under 30 mins, I was then summoned to go in rather formally, more so than when my friend was taken in, Strange but true,

I had an interview that lasted over 2hours, Don't get me wrong, I like to chat about things that are on interest to me, The interviewers liked that and we just go on and chatted for ages,

After that we all went back to the bar where i was spoiled for more drinks and food, I was kind of getting the feeling that they knew more about me and who I was and what I'm all about, Almost as if they had known me before somewhere, a bit spooky but nice,

I have now been balloted and waiting for the reply to confirm my EA night on 11th December, Iv not been told I'v been blackballed or any other bad news about not coming so I will assume I will still be required to come on that said night,

I have emailed and written to a few local lodges and to UGLE with no joy. As i dont know any one personally in this what sounds like a wonderful organisation, can i ask how long i need to wait or other means/efforts to undertake before i can prove myself.

hello everybody,

i just watched something on youtube from Channel 4 (im from the UK) about the freemasons (it was decoded: the lost symbol, the darren brown book) and i thought id look into it a little further

i find it fascinating, the "Supreme Being" aspect allows ANYONE to join, but i needed to ask people of masonary somthing myself

where do you stand with science and evolution?
i know that, if you accept belief in a supreme being, you do not have to divulge any further, but what if you belive in evolution and the big bang, only THAT was created by such a diety, would this be acceptable to masonary folk?

i dont mean to bring up anything bad, im purely curious
i myself am a beliver in evolution and science, but i do have the question of "why?" and "how?"
such as, how did the big bang happen, and why was earth so perfect, the only planet with masses of land AND water, there must be a reason behind all that and that is where a supreme being is brought in

so i ask you this friendly people of masonary, where do you stand with evolution and science?

I have just found this community while wasting a bit of time, and thought it a good idea to join and participate.
I am a MM from Southampton, UK. my mother Lodge is Pudbrook 8366, near Botley on the outskirts of Southampton.
I have been a Mason for a couple of years, and joined Pudbrook Chapter last month.In January 2010 i will be starting on the ladder of progression within the lodge after having been a lowly steward for a while now, and am looking forward to new challenges.
